Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theaters, is seeking Lead Bartenders for The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street.

About Signature

Founded in 1991, Signature Theatre celebrates playwrights and gives them an artistic home, producing six to eight productions annually. In 2005 Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all of its productions. In 2012, Signature opened The Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices.

Position Summary

Signature is seeking Lead Bartenders to join our community as part of our vibrant café’ team. The Pershing Square Center’s public lobby café’ and bar accommodates more than 300 guests, offers free WiFi and serves a range of signature drinks that capture the essence of our live performances. Guests from our diverse audiences can savor beverages and special cocktails while immersing themselves in our creative space. We’re on the lookout for passionate, reliable individuals who embody the art for being professional and would enjoy hosting a home for storytellers and a space for all.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

• Maintain all health and safety practices for all areas of the Café & Bar, including compliance with State Liquor Laws.
• Assess patrons’ needs and preferences and make recommendations and ensure that excellent customer service is delivered.
• Maintain food & beverage compliance standards.
• Foster a welcoming and respectful climate among all team members and patrons.
• Will work nights, weekends, and holidays (when applicable).
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced work environment. • Reliably complete all assigned setup and breakdown tasks.
• Handle cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensure charges are accurate and return correct change to patrons.
• Maintain a clean work and bar area by removing trash, cleaning tables, and washing glasses, utensils, and equipment.
• Maintain an accurate cash drawer throughout the night and be able to account for any and all discrepancies in the final drawer tally.
• Lead Bartender will be scheduled to assist the Café and Bar Manager on events happening at Signature Theatre such as opening nights, galas, and any other special events.
• Lead Bartender will be responsible for closing and cleaning the bar at the end of the shift, including but not limited to writing shift reports, inventory restock, cleaning and resetting bar equipment, and closing the cash register.
• Assist Café and Bar Manager with any other duties that may be assigned duties.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of POS system (Square knowledge a plus).
• In-depth knowledge of wine, spirits, and cocktails.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
• Self-motivated with outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Positive, engaging personality, and professional appearance.
• Handles well under pressure while coordinating a wide range of activities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with leadership ability.
• In-depth knowledge of NYC Department of Health standards.
• Concession management experience a plus.
• Passion and knowledge of the Off-Broadway and Broadway community a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time non-exempt position. The base rate of pay is $20.00 per hour. Lead bartenders will also earn tips. Lead Bartenders who work more than 40 hours in a work week, are eligible for overtime pay. Overtime pay will be paid at a rate of one and half times the base hourly rate of pay. Benefits includes earned sick pay and accrued personal days.
