ABOUT TITLE AND DEED

From Signature Legacy Playwright, Will Eno, Title and Deed made its world premiere at Signature in 2012 (featuring Conor Lovett, directed by Judy Hegarty Lovett, and developed with them by Eno), when The New York Times, in a Critic’s Pick review, called it “a haunting and often fiercely funny meditation on life as a state of permanent exile.” Despite its acclaim, it remains a lesser-known Eno play, and one both Signature and the playwright were excited to revisit. Title and Deed infuses poetic melancholy with humor as it considers immigration and alienation, home and a perpetual lack thereof, via the character of a “slightly foreign man.”

Will Eno lives in Brooklyn and is the happy, proud father of eleven-year-old Albertine, who acted in a workshop of her dad’s new play at the Gate Theatre in Dublin this summer. Will is a Pulitzer Finalist in Drama and winner of the Obie, Lortel, and Drama Desk awards. He wrote the book for the massively successful Skittles Superbowl musical, which starred his frequent collaborator Michael C. Hall, who performed Thom Pain in a thrilling sold-out revival at Signature. Will teaches playwriting, most recently at Princeton University, and mentors students at Columbia and elsewhere. Gnit, an adaptation of Peer Gynt, had its Canadian Premiere at the Shaw Festival in 2025. Oscar-winning film director Frederick Wiseman will direct the French premiere of The Realistic Joneses in Paris in 2026. Will also writes for television and film.
