Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking a Bartender for The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street.

Position Summary

Signature Theatre is seeking a BARTENDER at The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street. The position is part-time and non-exempt with a schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Café and Bar Manager, the Bartender will:

  • Maintain all health and safety practices for all areas of the Café & Bar, including compliance with state liquor laws.
  • Assess patrons’ needs and preferences and make recommendations and ensure that excellent customer service is delivered. 
  • Maintain food & beverage compliance standards.
  • Foster a welcoming and respectful climate among all team members and patrons.
  • Work nights, weekends, and holidays (when applicable).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Reliably complete all assigned setup and breakdown tasks.
  • Handle cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensure charges are accurate and return correct change to patrons.
  • Maintain a clean work and bar area by removing trash, cleaning tables, and washing glasses, utensils, and equipment.
  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer throughout the night and be able to account for any and all discrepancies in the final drawer tally.
  • Be scheduled to work events happening at Signature Theatre such as opening nights, galas, and any other special events.
  • Be responsible for cleaning the bar at the end of the shift, including but not limited to inventory restock and cleaning and resetting bar equipment.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of POS system (Square knowledge a plus).  
  • In-depth knowledge of wine, spirits, and cocktails or a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills. 
  • Self-motivated with outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Positive, engaging personality, and professional appearance.
  • Handles well under pressure while coordinating a wide range of activities. 
  • In-depth knowledge of NYC Department of Health standards. 
  • Passion and knowledge of the Off-Broadway and Broadway community a plus. 
  • Previous bartending experience is preferred or a minimum of 1-year experience in food service/hospitality.
  • Food Handler’s Certificate preferred.

Compensation

The Signature Theatre Bartender role is a part-time non-exempt position. The hourly rate of pay is $18.00 per hour plus tips. Hours that exceed more than 40 in a work week will be paid at the overtime rate of 1.5X the hourly rate ($27.00).
