Executive Director

Position Summary

Reporting to the Board of Trustees and partnering with the Artistic Director, the Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, champion a positive culture, support Signature’s exemplary programs, and oversee services and operations. The Executive Director will monitor and manage the organization’s financial health as well as oversee all contracts with artists, unions, vendors, and other entities. This individual will execute critical and proactive decision making, reinvigorate marketing initiatives with an emphasis on brand awareness, and fortify fundraising strategies to build contributed revenue. The position will define, develop, and implement priorities that advance the organization’s mission and strategic goals while ensuring board engagement and management team alignment with those priorities. The Executive Director will invigorate fund development and earned revenue strategies while providing overall operational and fiscal oversight. The successful candidate will build an organizational culture of teamwork, accountability, and collegiality characterized open communication and strategic fiscal management.

Artistic Line Producer

Position Summary

Signature Theatre, one of New York's leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking an Artistic Line Producer for The Pershing Square Signature Center on West 42nd Street.

Reporting directly to the Associate Artistic Director, the artistic line producer works in collaboration with Signature’s production and general management departments and plays a key role in the day-to-day planning and management of Signature’s productions. The Artistic Line Producer also supports supplemental programming, developmental readings, and other events at Signature as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Communicating and collaborating with Signature’s resident playwrights throughout each production process
  • Working with each production’s director, playwright, and Signature staff to assemble design and production teams
  • Liaising with Signature’s casting director in the scheduling and execution of auditions and callbacks, and when necessary, casting and integration of replacement actors and understudies
  • Attending casting sessions and acting as a resource for the director and playwright
  • Producing developmental readings with similar responsibilities as above
  • Organizing design meetings at Signature that begin each production’s design process
  • Liaising with Signature’s production manager throughout the design and bid processes with an eye towards budget and realization of the artistic vision of director and playwright
  • Attending production meetings, some rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and preview performances to support the production’s progress
  • Actively communicating with all Signature departments as necessary about developments in the production
  • Communicating with artists about participation in Marketing and Development events
  • Producing, moderating, and assisting in curation of supplemental programming events
  • Supporting the planning and production of Signature’s annual gala
  • Attending theatre productions outside of Signature to gain familiarity with artists’ work
Desired Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate has experience producing theatre in a professional setting, has strong communication skills, is organized and detail-oriented (including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously), and is comfortable collaborating with artists at different career levels. Experience working directly with playwrights on new plays is also an asset. This position requires both regular (onsite) weekday office hours and some (onsite) work on nights and weekends during the tech and preview process, occasionally for developmental work or special events, and to attend theatre outside of Signature.

Compensation

This is a full-time salaried exempt position. Annual salary is $60,000.

Position Summary

Technical Director is a full-time position and reports to the Production Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Signature Theatre Productions

  • Work with designers to assemble detailed bid packages, present to shops and mediate bids with a keen eye towards fiscal responsibility
  • Maintain clear communication within the production department to ensure successful integration of a show’s technical elements
  • Attend all design presentations, meetings, rehearsals and run-throughs as designated by the production manager
  • Estimate, track labor and design costs for each production and advise artistic production management of the potential consequences of proposed changes
  • Provide supervision for all load-in and work calls during the production process coordinating activity with other department heads
  • Responsible for the hiring and management of over hire crews as needed
  • Coordinate ongoing maintenance of all scenic elements including automation and effects equipment throughout the run

Pershing Square Signature Center

  • Ensure theatrical systems and theatre spaces are maintained and kept in proper working order
  • Provide support to rental entities as needed; including, but not limited to scenic, rigging, SFX and automation consultation and venue prep
  • Work closely with the Director of Production and Facilities to support ongoing needs of the Pershing Square Signature Center
  • Ensure annual maintenance of rigging systems in theatres and studios
  • Maintain CAD drawings for theatres, studios and public spaces
  • Maintain all Prop Shop equipment and inventory
  • Maintain clean and safe work practices throughout the Center, its theatres and support spaces
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Three or more years as a Technical Director or in a related position with equivalent experience
  • Broad knowledge of construction techniques including, but not limited to, rigging, automation, pneumatics and engineering as it relates to technical designs
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Proven supervisory and leadership skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and budgeting experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an eye for details
  • Possess a positive attitude and is self-motivated
  • Willingness to obtain the following FDNY certifications: F03, C15 and E30
  • Possess a valid driver license. Ability to drive a box truck is a plus

Position Summary

The Audio and Video Supervisor is a full-time position and reports to the Production Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Signature Theatre Productions

  • Participate in the creation of sound and video budgets. In conjunction with the production manager.
  • Maintain and track sound and video budgets
  • Work with designers to assemble detailed bid packages for additional equipment and mediate bids with a keen eye towards fiscal responsibility
  • Attend all design presentations, meetings, rehearsals, and run-throughs as designated by
  • the Production Manager
  • Provide supervision for all load-in and work calls during the production process
  • Coordinate technical and personnel needs for supplemental programs and opening nights
  • Hire, coordinate and supervise all AV over hire personnel for load-in, run of show and strike, and for works calls as needed

The Pershing Square Signature Center

  • Oversee and enforce safety protocols throughout the planning and execution stages for all theatrical work at the Pershing Square Signature Center
  • Identify and propose upgrades for all AV systems
  • Maintain lobby and rehearsal studio sound systems
  • Maintain Audio and Video program feeds
  • Assist Director of Production in long term facilities and production projects as needed
  • Work with Front of House to maintain Assisted Listening Device (ALD) system
  • Work with the Venue Operations Manager to evaluate and advise on the feasibility of designs for rentals in theatres and other areas of the Center, with particular focus on safety
  • Hire, coordinate and supervise all AV over hire personnel to support rentals and work at the Center as needed
  • Collaborate with other departments on events such as the Gala
  • Train, oversee and enforce safety protocols throughout the planning and execution stages for all theatrical sound and video work at the Perishing Square Signature Center
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Two or more years as an AV Supervisor in theatre or in a related AV position with equivalent experience
  • Experience with managing deadlines for multiple projects in a fast-moving environment
  • Broad knowledge of audio, video, and communications equipment as they relate to technical design needs
  • Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience

COVID Safety Manager

Position Summary

Signature Theatre is currently seeking COVID-19 Safety Manager(s) (CSM) for productions in our spring 2022 season. We are filling several positions starting immediately, and in late February and mid-March.

The CSM is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of all Signature Theare productions including artists, designers, and other production staff. CSMs should possess a working knowledge of recommendations set by the CDC (Center for Disease Control), protocols and regulations for the live performance industry and strong organizational and management skills. A background in theatrical production and operations is a bonus. Prior experience in COVID-19 safety and AEA/SDC/USA Covid compliance is highly preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Be present and available during all company working hours, and serve as a resource for company members on all COVID-19 safety matters
  • Understand and implement company safety measures as required by AEA/the Off-Broadway League, SDC, and USA as well as Signature’s additional COVID-19 safety protocols
  • Work with General Management, Company Management, Production, Facilities, and Front of House to ensure protocols are enforced among artists, staff, crew, and patrons.
  • Perform COVID training sessions for the production team, creative team, cast, and crew
  • Execute the COVID screening and testing of actors, creatives, and select personnel
  • Implementation of all daily protocols as required and new protocols required in case of a positive test. This may include duties such as daily check-in and /or symptom check, sanitization of specific items, and other related protocols.
  • Maintain a continuous log of every person, including workers and visitors who may have had close contact with other individuals at the theatre
  • Ensure all company members are equipped with appropriate PPE
  • Track and maintain proof of vaccination, test results, and other sensitive health data
  • Maintain awareness of all local, state, and CDC guidelines related to COVID-19
  • Maintain and stock all necessary PPE and supplies.
  • Additional duties as assigned
Desired Experience

Prior Covid Safety Manager experience is required on at least one live production. This prior position could have been part of a Covid Compliance team or an assistant position.

Compensation

This is an hourly paid, seasonal and non-exempt position. Hourly rate range is $25.00-$30.00.
