LaunchPad Residency

LaunchPad Residency

An incubator program for early career playwrights from historically underrepresented communities.

Announcing our newest residency, Signature's LaunchPad Residency moves boldly and thoughtfully into the future to support talented early-career playwrights from historically underrepresented communities. This unique residency deepens Signature’s mission to incubate and produce bodies of work by exceptional playwrights at all stages of their careers. LaunchPad provides holistic artistic support over three years, including two commissions, developmental opportunities, a workshop production, and a full production. In addition, the LaunchPad Residency includes health insurance, Signature office space, and opportunities for artistic mentorship and community development.

The LaunchPad Residency will provide one playwright the following holistic slate of opportunities, over a period of approximately three years:

  • Two $15,000 commissions
  • One full production in the 99-seat Ford Studio
  • One workshop production in the 99-seat Ford Studio
  • Guided mentorship by a Residency 1 or Residency 5 Signature playwright
  • Healthcare benefits
  • Developmental readings (toward production)
  • Theatergoing stipend of $1000/year
  • One week-long writing retreat outside of NYC
  • Access to private workspace at Signature

Currently, there is no formal application process for LaunchPad as playwrights will be considered for the residency based on their individual artistic merit and development. LaunchPad is intended to advance an early-career playwright’s voice, their body of work and their professional development.

If you are a NYC-based early-career playwright interested in being considered for this residency, you are invited to send 1-3 (max 3) of your full-length plays to Director of Artistic Programs, Iyvon E. at

Submissions for the inaugural LaunchPad program are now closed.
