MacArthur Fellow and writer of Darren Aronofsky's The Whale, Samuel D. Hunter, returns with the Off-Broadway premiere of A Bright New Boise. Similar to his critically-acclaimed first production at Signature, A Case for the Existence of God, Hunter captures a region of his home state Idaho – in a depersonalized work environment – through the people who inhabit it. This dark comedic work depicts a Boise Hobby Lobby thrown into chaos by the arrival of a new employee sorting through a tragic past.

MacArthur Fellow Samuel D. Hunter returns to Signature following the 2022 world premiere of A Case for the Existence of God, a New York Times Critics’ Pick as “the purest example yet of Hunter’s approach to playwriting as an experiment in empathy,” and awarded the 2022 New York Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play. Sam’s other plays include Greater Clements and Lewiston/Clarkston. The film adaptation of Sam's Drama Desk Award-winning play The Whale, directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Brendan Frasier, was released this year.
